youth peace media initiative in Africa

Gafotozi – photography workshop

In November 2009, we launched the first phase in our pilot project, a photography workshop among orphans and vulnerable youth. It resulted in the first village photo exhibit in the region.

Check out some of the great creative from gafotozi (“young/small photographer” in Kinyarwanda).

Special thanks to Johnny Lam, a professional photographer from Canada who volunteered his time to work on this project. And to Esperance Niyigena, coordinator of Children of Hope in Rwanda, a program to empower child/youth-headed households.

We hope to develop this workshop in the coming months including ways to publish some of the gafotozi work. Email us at apeaceoflife@ymail.com with your ideas or volunteer to help us promote.

We are thrilled to note that all of the gafotozi were able to attend our first youth peace camp this past November 2010 in Nyange. They were our official photographers. See their photos

We now plan for the next peace camp. Click here to donate.
