In November 2009, we launched our very first project – Gafotozi (Kinyarwanda: small photographer) – a photography workshop among orphans and vulnerable youth – that resulted in the first village photo exhibit of its kind in the region.
2009 was a significant year, with both the 15th Commemoration of the Genocide Against the Tutsi and the International Year of Reconciliation. Special thanks to Johnny Lam, a professional photographer from Canada who volunteered his time to work on this project. And to Esperance Niyigena, coordinator of Children of Hope in Rwanda, a CBM program to empower child/youth-headed households.
In 2010, we had the gafotozi attend our very first peace camp as our official photographers. See photos
We hope to offer this workshop once again and publish some of their creative work. Help us provide more opportunities. Donate online today
